Born in New Jersey to Canadian parents, Kate’s dual citizenship status provided her the opportunity to choose in which country she’d prefer to pursue her post-secondary goals.  She obtained her undergrad Bachelor’s degree in history at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. After some years of working in the field of marketing in Toronto, Kate attended Syracuse University College of Law, where she obtained her J.D. cum laude.  Go Orange!    While there, Kate was on the editorial board of the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce and The Labor Lawyer, an ABA publication.  She also was part of the 1L International Moot Court Team, which participated in a competition in Toronto, Canada, involving both American and Canadian law schools.  In addition to her service on law school editorial boards, Kate graduated with the Syracuse University College of Law Orange Pro Bono Award, for her extensive pro bono efforts.

Prior to entering private practice, Kate worked in the not-for-profit world for the Legal Aid Society of Rochester, NY, and Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc. (“MALS”). Her commitment to working with underserved communities continues, and she is a regular participant in the Memphis Bar Association’s Saturday Legal Clinic.  Kate also serves as a board member for the Community of St. Therese of Lisieux, which strives to offer a new way of life to women who have survived trauma, addiction, and prostitution.

Kate is an avid learner and is always striving to discover more about both family law and procedural practice, in order to best represent her clients through a life-changing event.  She regularly attends continuing legal education provided by both local and state-wide bar associations.  While at MALS, Kate attended the National Trial Institute Legal Services Trial Skills Program in Dallas, TX, further solidifying her trial skills.
