Tennessee’s Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti Announce Divorce
Tennessee resident actress Ashley Judd and champion race car driver Dario Franchitti to file for divorce after 11-years of marriage.
Judd and Franchitti to Begin Divorce Proceedings
After a two-year courtship, in December 2001 actress Ashley Tyler (Ciminella) Judd married Dario Franchitti, the now well-known Scottish IndyCar and NASCAR champion racing driver. The handsome couple’s fairy tale wedding took place at the Skibo Castle in Scotland; their enchanting relationship lasting more than a decade.
But now the 44-year-old Judd and her racing husband (now 39) are separating. In her public statement on their soon-to-be-pending divorce, Judd gently stated: “We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We’ll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed.”
Will There Be an Uncontested Divorce?
The couple did not have children, so the absence of child custody matters could mean an uncontested divorce for the spouses. (People do change their minds about having children, but the actress’ well-publicized political position on child bearing was reflected in her 2006 statement: “It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.”)
Although child custody will not be an issue in this couple’s divorce, they do have substantial assets to divide and alimony is always a possibility. If appearances are correct and this remains an amicable break-up, it’s quite possible the two could reach agreement on every issue in their celebrity divorce, including marital property division and spousal support, if any.
Will Tennessee’s Ashley Judd Divorce and Then Run for U.S. Senate?
A politically savvy democrat, Ashley Judd resides in Williamson County, Tennessee, but it seems she may have her eye on U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky seat in 2014. Judd is, after all, a very proud and vocal Univ. of Kentucky graduate and a big supporter of her alma mater’s basketball and hockey teams. Judd was also a volunteer Tennessee delegate at the Democratic National Convention last September.
