At this year’s Tennessee Bar Association annual convention in Memphis, I was awarded the prestigious Justice Joseph W. Henry Award for Outstanding Legal Writing. The award, named for a former chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, is presented to the writer of the “most outstanding” Tennessee Bar Journal article of the previous year. It is the TBA’s highest honor for legal writing, and this year, I was recognized for my article, “You Are the Father! Untangling Custody Rights in Tennessee Between Unmarried Parents,” published in the November/December 2023 issue of the TBJ.
My law father-in-law, Judge Joe B. Jones, was the first recipient of this award in 1982. He told me how much he treasured it.
Thank you to the voters for this honor, including Dean Jim Strickland and our Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tennessee as well as the editor and editorial board of the TBJ. Click to view the TBA’s press release.
