Meet Kenicia Cathey, our 2025 Summer Associate.
Summer associate, Kenicia Cathey, is a native Memphian. She attended LeMoyne-Owen College for undergrad, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, she took the LSAT and accepted an offer from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
Kenecia’s favorite part of law school is everything she is learning and how it has changed her views on legal issues in the real world. Her proudest profesional accomplishment so far is being the first in her family to attend law school. Her advice for others considering the legal profession is, “If you’re considering law school, do research before you commit to it: talk to attorneys (if possible), intern at a law firm, and make a list of law schools that resonate best with your values.”
In her spare time, Kenecia enjoys listening to political debates, watching reality television, and going to museums. When asked what three individuals she would most like to share a meal with, Kenecia named Charlotte E. Ray, the first African American woman lawyer in the U.S., Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court justice, and Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett. Congresswoman Crockett is Kenecia’s role model because of her major accomplishments and similar backgrounds.
